Hiway 80 Rescue Mission comes to Tyler!
After the East Texas Rescue Mission closed, there were many men without a home, forced back onto the streets without any way to overcome their state of homelessness. A group of concerned residents of Tyler formed a group called the “Rescue Mission for Tyler Committee.”
This group is made up of 5 members: Greg Grubb, Stephanie Vasso, Andy Bergfeld, Cindy Selsur, and Dewayne Manning. The Rescue Mission for Tyler Committee has dedicated their time and energy to developing a strategy that will meet the needs of the hungry and needy of the Tyler area.
- After examining the success of Hiway 80 Rescue Mission Ministries of Longview, TX in their community for the last 55 years, the Tyler committee has asked Hiway 80 Rescue Mission to come and start a satellite site.
- Rev. Antonio Christian of Tyler, TX, a current case manager at Hiway 80 Rescue Mission, has been assigned in Tyler to build relationships with the homeless and churches of the Tyler area.
- Goals are to:
- Expand feeding of the homeless
- Provide spiritual counseling and case management
- Connect the homeless to services offered by Hiway 80 Rescue Mission in Longview
- Evaluate the need for a full-service Rescue Mission in Tyler
Volunteers needed to:
- Serve meals
- Outreach to the homeless on the streets
- Conduct food drives
