An early Thanksgiving meal was served Wednesday for the needy in Longview. Turkey and all the trimmings were on the plates today at the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission.
The mission served up around 350 meals, including deliveries, to needy families. The meal traditionally is not just about food, but about creating hope for the future.
"We want to be about more than a meal; we don't know who the person is coming today for a Thanksgiving meal. Through that, we can share the love of Christ with them, and through that, maybe they get a job, maybe they get into an alcohol or drug recovery program. Those are all starts, and our motto is "a road to a new life starts here." Well, that could happen right here this Thanksgiving, this Christmas," says mission director Eric Burger.
